![]() ![]() David Joyner - Hip Hop Harry (In-suit performer), Chef Rob (1 episode). His birthday is January 22, as noted in Episode 5. The character's appearance is in the general style of hip-hop fashion. Hip Hop Harry is an anthropomorphic rapping yellow furry bear with a red shirt, blue hat, baggy blue jeans, a gold chain with an "H" in the middle and white sneaker shoes with an "H" on each side. After the kids come together to move in the middle, the credits roll. But before they dance, they do a warm-up dance called, "The Harry". Even Harry dances in the circle too (thus, the kids shout, "Go, Harry!!"). Each episode ends with the "Hip Hop Harry Dance Circle", where the kids circle up while one of them dances in the center as they shout, "Go! Go! Go! Go! Go!", to an instrumental hip hop track, with Arabian-tinged music. After they have learned about the topic, they sing and rap the song "I Love to Learn." Then, the kids and Hip Hop discuss what they've learned via questions/answers and watching recaps from the day's episode via a push-button monitor. In between, the kids learn about the main topic of the episode. The show takes place in a learning/play center house known as "Hip Hop Central", where Hip Hop Harry and various neighborhood children learn, play and dance. The program uses age-appropriate hip hop music and dance to teach social, educational, physical and creative skills. Similar to PBS Kids series such as Barney & Friends (the setting of the show bears resemblance to Barney in nature), Kidsongs, Sesame Street, Teletubbies and The Wiggles, Hip Hop Harry is a live-action program aimed at younger children ranging from around 2–7 years old. Hip Hop Harry is an American children's television series created by Claude Brooks that aired on Discovery Kids and TLC as part of the Ready Set Learn block from Septemto June 26, 2008. But don’t for one moment think they’ll spend eternity gathering dust. ![]() It’s unlikely that many of today’s kids will actually get to experience the thrill of riding one of the brand new Choppers most of the limited edition new models have already been sold to collectors. I paid a hell of a lot of money for that: £5,500.” “Bearing in mind that Alan Oakley came back on November 3, 1968, I’ve got a hub-dated MkI Chopper which is from December 11, 1968. “I’ve got one which nobody has beaten yet,” he adds. Of alloy wheels, so a few came out with steel wheels on them. “768 special edition jubilees were made,” he explains. The holy grail of Chopper collecting, according to Sykes, is a certain version of the special edition Chopper released for Christmas 1976 to commemorate the Queen’s silver jubilee the following year. “Some of them come with pictures of the kid next to the Christmas tree, and some have the original receipt with them showing how much they paid down at Halfords.” Also, since they were handmade in Raleigh’s Nottingham factory, the odd ‘Friday afternoon job’ with upside-down stickers sometimes crops up too. The cult of Chopper even has its own creation myth: the late Raleigh designer Alan Oakley, flying back from a research trip to the US to see the Chopper’s pre-cursor, the Schwinn Stingray, famously sketched designs for the first prototype on the back of an airmail envelope. Raleigh made three ‘marks’ but hundreds of different options three, five and 10-speeds dropped handlebars and a few rarities where the factory had to shift old stock and blended old parts with new. Part of the appeal of collecting Choppers comes down to their sheer variety. I did a deal with a guy in America, for nine MkIIs and four MkIs for the bike.” “The most I paid for one was for a 10-speed, brand spanking new. This design classic of the 1970s was redesigned several times to overcome handling problems and was relaunched in 2004.“The most expensive I’ve seen went for over £7,000 and that was a boxed MkI 10-speed still wrapped up in its box,” Sykes adds. In 2004, with 1970s nostalgia in the air, Raleigh revived the model. ![]() In 1984 production ceased but not before 1.5 million had been sold. However, with the rise of the BMX, the Chopper fell out of favour. Several redesigns reduced the impact of these issues. The Chopper, however, was not without problems, particularly regarding the handling, as the centre of gravity had been moved further back than usual. All these traits helped to make it one of the most popular and much desired bikes of the 1970s, a design classic of its time. Made specifically for children and incorporating the radical new long 'Polo' seat, wide tyres with coloured line decoration, a three speed gear stick and a distinctive frame, it was available in a variety of colours. Having a better understanding of how many moons orbit Jupiter can help protect spacecraft and increase the potential of upcoming missions, Alexandersen says. “I hope we can image one of these outer moons close-up in the near future to better determine their origins,” Sheppard told Marcia Dunn of the Associated Press via email. And NASA is targeting an October 2024 launch of its Europa Clipper spacecraft, which will orbit Jupiter and closely study its moon Europa to learn whether it has conditions that could support life. This spring, the European Space Agency plans to launch a spacecraft to observe Jupiter’s icy moons. Scientists hope to learn more about Jupiter and its moons in the coming years. Astronomers expect to find more moons around both planets. Jupiter and Saturn are thought to have many small moons because once-larger moons collided with other space objects and broke into smaller satellites. The new moons are all much smaller than Earth’s-they range from 0.6 to 2 miles in diameter. “We want to have a detailed map of everything that is out there, so we know what to expect and can plan missions accordingly,” Mike Alexandersen, an astrophysicist at the Minor Planet Center who worked on publishing the discoveries, tells Smithsonian magazine in an email. Follow-up observations confirmed their status as moons, clearing the way for them to be officially recognized by the Minor Planet Center, hosted by the Center for Astrophysics, Harvard & Smithsonian, between late December and late January. The new moons orbit Jupiter from a distance-all 12 take at least 340 days to orbit the planet, and nine take more than 550 days -so this proved to be a slow process. While the original observations took place some time ago, astronomers needed to track each object’s entire orbit to confirm it was a moon, per Sky & Telescope. “We have been surveying for new moons around Jupiter serendipitously while our main survey is looking for planets in the outer solar system beyond Pluto,” Scott Sheppard, an astronomer at the Carnegie Institute for Science who is part of the group that found the new moons, tells Gizmodo’s Kevin Hurler via email. Then, astronomers spotted these 12 additional candidates using telescopes in Hawaii and Chile in 20. Over the next 400-odd years, further observations increased that tally to 80 known moons. He also discovered four of Jupiter’s moons at this time. While people have known of Jupiter’s existence for at least a couple thousand years, the first detailed observations of the fifth-closest planet to the sun are credited to Galileo Galilei in 1610. Sometimes called the “king of planets,” Jupiter is more than twice as massive as the rest of planets combined. But if scientists could detect all moons at least three kilometers wide, “Saturn would have more moons than all the rest of the solar system,” Brett Gladman, an astronomer at the University of British Columbia in Canada who was not involved in the recent discoveries, says to Sky & Telescope’s Jeff Hecht. Saturn is the current runner-up with 83 known moons, and prior to this discovery, it had been the reigning leader for moon count since 2019. The gas giant now holds the record for the most known moons of any planet in the solar system-for the time being, at least. Astronomers discovered 12 additional moons of Jupiter, raising its total number of known natural satellites to 92.
